Shipping & Delivery

We take pride in handcrafting each piece of Michellia jewelry with great love and care. Unless otherwise specified on the product page or shop announcement section, please allow 6-8 weeks for custom production in addition to transit time (see below for US & International shipping options).

If you have a specific timeline to meet, please kindly place the order at least one and half (1 1/2) months prior to your desired delivery date. If you live outside of the U.S, we recommend that you place your order two (2) months prior to your desired delivery date to account for potential delay in the custom clearance process.

If you have an urgent deadline to meet (less than 6 weeks), please first check out our ready-to-ship collection. For ready-to-ship pieces, our turnaround time is 7-10 business days for sizing and polishing, not including transit time (see below for US & International shipping options).

If you do not see your preferred items in our ready-to-ship collection, please email us at support@michellia.com with your detailed requests for additional inventory availability.

We cannot rush our standard production process, so rush orders can only be accommodated if we have the exact item in stock. Given the scarcity of our ready-to-ship inventory, it is recommended that you make plans ahead of time and allow us to craft your perfect piece to order.

All US Domestic orders are shipped via complimentary Fedex 3-day service with tracking information and signature confirmation, and should arrive to you within 3 business days after dispatch. You may also request Fedex overnight shipping upgrade with an extra fee at checkout. (Note: Our standard production time still applies if overnight shipping method is chosen.)

We ship worldwide. If an international shipping address is provided at checkout, an international shipping fee will be automatically added to your order total. All international packages are sent through UPS or Fedex International Priority shipping service with delivery and signature confirmation.

Delivery speed is usually between 5-7 business days after dispatch, but the exact timeline is subject to customs clearance process. Import duties, taxes or other charges are NOT included in the price of the product or the shipping fee, which are determined by the customs agency within the destination country, and will be due when your shipment arrives.

When your order is ready for dispatch, a separate shipping email including tracking information will be sent to you. All domestic and international packages come with standard insurance by default and will require a signature confirmation upon delivery.

All Michellia jewelry comes in our signature keepsake box with discreet outside packaging. We understand the surprise element often involved in fine jewelry purchases, thus we will actively avoid any explicit mentioning of package content or our business name on the outer packaging, unless otherwise requested.

While we do not have any public walk-in showrooms, we are able to take private viewing appointments in Salem, Oregon. Please email our team at support@michellia.com to set up a viewing appointment. Please note that we collect a $30 fee for every appointment, which can be credited towards any of your future purchase from us.

Please note that we do not keep much inventory on hand due to the made-to-order nature of our custom jewelry pieces, so we kindly ask you to get in touch with us at least 2 months in advance prior to your desired appointment time so we can make proper arrangements.

Returns & Exchanges

Every effort will be made to ensure your satisfaction with your Michellia purchase. We accept returns and exchanges on most orders within 30 days of initial delivery. Since each piece of Michellia Jewelry is individually handcrafted to order, all returns (excluding ones related to craftsmanship defects) will incur a 35% restocking fee.

If you wish to exchange your piece for a different style, we can apply the full amount (minus the exchange fee) of your original purchase to a new purchase of equal or greater value. Exchange is limited to one time per customer; A one-time $100 exchange fee will be charged for all exchanges to cover additional shipping & handling. Every order is allowed one exchange/return and cannot be exchanged/returned multiple times.

If there is a craftsmanship defect with the item(s) upon delivery, or if we have made your order in the wrong specifications (i.e. size, color, style), please contact us within 7 days of delivery and we will gladly take full responsibility to ensure your satisfaction.

All jewelry must be returned in its original packaging and condition without any signs of wear or alteration - we reserve the right to decline a return/exchange if the item shows signs of wear, has been altered in any way, or if the request is made after 30 days of delivery.

Exceptions & Exclusions:

- Orders with diamond center stones (lab or natural) cannot be returned or exchanged, but can be altered, resized, or serviced under the same warranty as other non-diamond center stone items.

- Ready-to-ship items cannot be cancelled or returned, but can enjoy the same exchange policy as our regular items.

- Orders with custom modifications (i.e. design change, custom stones, extended sizing, engraving) are not eligible for cancellations, returns or exchanges, but can be resized or altered within our capability.

- Sale items are not eligible for cancellations, returns or exchanges, but can be altered, resized, or serviced under the same warranty as regular-priced items.

- Orders placed between October 1st and November 11th will enjoy extended holiday return & exchange window of 60 days.

Cancellations can be requested free of charge within 24 hours. After 24 hours of purchase, a 35% restocking fee will be deducted from your final refund.

Sizing & Materials

Our standard guide for US ring size and international conversion can be used as an initial point of reference for sizing. Measureing by soft tape or thread around the finger base is not our most recommended method due to potential room for error, but it can be used as an intitial starting point. For most accurate fitting, we recommend going to a trusted local jewelry store to get professionally sized in person.

Alternatively, you may purchase a simple ring sizer from Amazon (usually for less than 20USD) and get measured at home if going to a local jeweler is not an immediate option.

Please note that your finger may become more swollen in hot weather and less so in cold weather, so if you got your finger measured in winter, you may choose to size up by ¼ US size to accommodate for potential swelling in the summer time.

If you are trying to buy someone else a ring as a surprise but don't know her ring size, first try measuring one of her existing rings using our ring size guide, or bring it to a local jeweler to get an in-person measurement. If it's a ring that she usually wears on her middle finger, her ring finger should be about 1/2 US size smaller. If you are unable to obtain an existing ring she wears, try asking her best friend(s) or close relatives for an educated guess. If all else fails, you may choose to purchase the ring in US size 6 1/2 or 7, which is the most common ring size for an average female, and can be easily resized upon a more accurate fitting in the future.

We are happy to help with resizing at a $75 fee for each ring, plus an additional $25 fee for shipping the ring(s) back to an U.S. domestic address. The customer is responsible for shipping the ring(s) to our studio with proper packaging, tracking, and insurance. For international orders, there will be an additional international shipping fee involved and potential import taxes. We are only able to offer resizing service for international orders if the client is willing to cover these additional fees.

If you prefer not to mail the ring(s) back to us, you may also bring your jewelry to a reputable local jeweler of your choice. This option will take away the risk and cost of shipping a high-value item back and forth, and you may be able to get your ring(s) back in a more timely manner. However, since we can’t be responsible for any potential damage from someone else’s work, so we recommend that you only go this route if time is of absolute essence, and if you trust the third party jeweler completely.

If you would like to arrange for our resizing service, please contact us at support@michellia.com for service instructions.

Unless specifically noted, all Michellia Jewelry is crafted in solid 14k or 18K gold (not plated) or 950 platinum.

K stands for karat (not to be confused with carat, which is the weight measure for gemstones) and refers to the percentage of gold in an alloy. To illustrate: 24K gold is 100% pure, 18K is 75% gold and 25% alloyed metals, and 14K is 58% gold and 42% alloyed metals. The visual difference between 14K and 18K gold is rather negligible to the untrained naked eye, and should not be the main deciding factor when choosing between the two types of gold.

Because of its higher percentage of gold, a 18-karat piece will fetch a higher price than one of 14-karat gold. It is the most classy and traditional metal used in engagement jewelry, and will hold up to everyday wear while retaining value better over time. 18K gold is the most common metal choice for fine jewelry in Europe and Asia.

Because of its higher percentage of alloyed metal mix, a 14-karat piece offers more resistance to wear and tear, so those with active lifestyles may want to consider getting 14K gold jewelry as it holds up better in sports, manual labor, and other rigorous activities. Combined with its more budget-friendly nature, 14K gold is the most popular choice for fine jewelry in the U.S. jewelry market.

While platinum looks almost identical to white gold in terms of appearance, platinum is more dense and so more of it is required to make fine jewelry. Additionally, platinum jewelry is 95% pure platinum (vs. 58.5% gold for 14K or 75% gold for 18K), hence the reason for platinum jewelry to have the highest cost out of all fine metal options. If budget is not a concern, we typically recommend platinum over white gold as platinum will always stay true white, while white gold requires occasional re-polishing and re-plating to maintain its white color.

Warranty Information

We stand behind the quality of all Michellia jewelry and provide lifetime warranty against all craftsmanship defects. If you notice any issue with your Michellia jewelry, please contact us to arrange for an inspection. If we determine that a craftsmanship defect is present, we will service your jewelry at no additional cost to you. If we determine that the damage is outside of our responsibility, we will quote you a price for the service and only move forward once we have your approval.

- Replacing lost accent stone(s) for free within one year from delivery date.

(After one year, lost accent stones will be considered a part of normal wear and tear, and can be replaced at a small fee).

- Routine inspection, cleaning, and/or polishing.

- Correcting any craftsmanship defects.

- Fine jewelry is not impervious to normal wear, activities, or trauma. Our warranty coverage excludes normal wear and tear, resulting loss of gemstones, artificial abuse, and/or theft.

- We do not cover damaged, stained, or chipped center stone unless the defect is present upon arrival. You must notify us within 7 days of receipt if the center stone arrives to you in an unsatisfactory condition.

- Repair, sizing, or other service performed by someone other than Michellia will automatically void all warranty.

- Our warranty is non-transferrable, and has to be requested by the original buyer.

Fine Jewelry Care

- Apply all lotions, cosmetics, and perfumes BEFORE putting on your jewelry.

- After each wear, wipe jewelry piece with a clean soft cloth to remove dirt and oil buildups.

- Clean jewelry with lukewarm water if needed; mild soap is okay for most gemstones except opals (please see separate care information below for opal jewelry).

- Store each jewelry piece separately in fabric-lined box or pouch to prevent scratches.

- Never wear jewelry to sleep or shower.

- Never wear jewelry when doing physical work such as housekeeping, gardening, or exercise.

- Never expose jewelry to chlorine swimming pools, hot tubs, or ocean water.

- Never expose jewelry to sudden temperature changes and excessive sunlight.

Ethiopian fire opals are hydrophane in nature, which means that they are absorbent of water and other liquids from the environment.

Opal jewelry needs to be kept away from liquid chemicals at all times, or the stone could suffer from permanent stain and loss of color. Try to keep your opal jewelry as naturally dry as possible. Keep away from oils, soap, shampoo, detergent, perfumes, and any chemical liquids. Do not wear opal jewelry while washing hands, showering, washing dishes, swimming, or any other activity that could expose the opal to impurities in the water.

If your opal becomes stained, discolored or damaged from improper care (i.e. washing hands with your opal ring on all the time), the only resolution would be a stone replacement.

Clean opal jewelry with a dry, soft cloth to gently remove dirt and buildups. Do NOT clean opal jewelry with soap, liquid cleaning agents, steamer, or ultrasonic cleaner.

Note: If opal is left in a humid environment (i.e. bathroom counter or tropical vacation destinations) or got rained on briefly, it may turn colorless temporarily. However, the colors will return once the opal fully dries - as long as no other chemicals are involved in the process.

Other FAQ

Effective April 1st, 2022

Over the years, we have prided ourselves on providing our clients with quality fine jewelry at prices that are extremely competitive to traditional physical retail jewelry stores. This is done through our efficient e-commerce business model where we do not pass on the cost of physical store rent, corporate office overhead, or sales commissions to our clients. We have always done our best to pass on the lowest pricing while maintaining the highest level of quality and craftsmanship.

As we all know by now, the world has been through a lot in the past few years, during which the cost of gold, precious gemstones, transportation, and labor costs have all skyrocketed due to underlying socioeconomic changes. Gold price alone has increased by over 30% since March 2020, yet knowing that everyone has been affected heavily by these unfortunate circumstances, our team has been keeping our prices mostly stable while carrying on the additional costs as business losses.

Recently we have received multiple notices of continuous raw material cost increase from our suppliers, which has forced us to re-evaluate our pricing as we do not want to compromise on product quality for our valued clients, or underserve our team of dedicated staff.

We have made the difficult decision to implement a sidewide price increase between 10-15% effective April 1st, 2022.

We want to thank everyone for their continuous support and kind understanding on this difficult business decision. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@michellia.com with any questions, and we will be happy to assist.

Sincerely,
Team Michellia
